Isabela Island
Isabela Island is the largest island in the Galapagos, with an area of approximately 4,640 km², located at the western end of the archipelago. It stands out for its impressive volcanic landscape and its numerous volcanoes, some of which are still active.
On this island is the Wolf volcano, the highest of the archipelago with 1,707 meters high. Isabela is unique in the Galapagos for being formed by five erupting volcanoes: Wolf, Darwin, Alcedo, Cerro Azul and Sierra Negra.
This island is famous for its rich marine life, where you can see various species such as sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, sea lions and penguins. Isabela is an important nesting site for sea turtles in the Galapagos, hosting species such as the green turtle, hawksbill turtle and leatherback turtle.
Endemic species such as the flightless cormorant, marine iguana, giant Galapagos tortoise and Galapagos penguin can also be found here. In addition, it is a popular place for the observation of marine birds such as gannets and blue-footed boobies.
The island offers a wide range of activities for visitors, such as snorkeling, diving, hiking and wildlife viewing. You can also explore places of interest such as the Sierra Negra volcano, one of the largest craters in the archipelago, and the lava tunnels in the center of the island.
